Make Music New York: Twilight Chorus (for Humans)

Special Events

Thursday, June 21, 2018 | 7 p.m. and 7:35 p.m.
Line up at 150 Eastern Parkway from 6:30 p.m.

Join us for the world premiere of Twilight Chorus (for Humans), a new vocal work composed by Pete M. Wyer. Inspired by MIT professor Shigeru Miyagawa’s theory that human speech evolved from birdsong, Wyer’s score features slowed-down transcripts of birdsong field recordings adapted for a choir of 16 human voices. During the performance, singers move through the Garden individually before converging as a chorus.

There will be two 20-minute performances, at 7 p.m. and 7:35 p.m., with a short talk with the composer and Dr. Miyagawa in between. Audiences may begin lining up at 6:30 p.m. at the 150 Eastern Parkway entrance to the Garden.

Presented in partnership with Make Music New York.
